Mrs. Perkins 4th grade class

Welcome to Mrs. Perkins 4th grade class.

Just a few reminders:
PTC:  Parent Teacher Conferences are next week, Nov. 8th and 9th.  You should have received an email and link to schedule a time to meet with me.
LANGUAGE:

We are working on conjunctions and writing stories about all kinds of things, from "If I were magically change into..." to personal experience stories.
We DO have spelling words each week with a test on Friday.  These words CAN be taken home to study each week, however it is not required.  We study them every day in class and have different activities to help the students remember how to spell them. I have three different lists for 5 different groups. I will post them on here starting next week.  I will post them by group so your child needs only tell you which group he/she is in.  I hope this will help.
Also, we try to read silently in class (independently) each day however, it is very important that your child read every day.  I do not send home a reading calendar or assignment, however, I REALLY encourage my students to read at home.

MATH:

We are making our way through chapter 2 of our math book.  We practice multiplication tables every day and then work through our lesson.  We are working on multiplying double digits as well as solving story problems and what information is helpful and what is not.  HOMEWORK is only given if your student didn't finish in class.  I try to give them plenty of time to finish in class however, some lessons are harder than others and may take a little more time.  If I see the majority of the class struggling, I will stop, re-teach and take an extra day (or 2) to go over the concept. I will not send home any work on the days the class is really struggling so we can go over it in class together.
If you would like to see what our math program is like, you can go to www.gomath.com

We continue to work on our counties for the "County Fair" next week.  Each student has been assigned a county to do a report on.  Please send a tri-fold board with your student sometime this week.  If you are unable to get one please email me  kperkins@2summit.org and let me know. I have a few extra that students have donated.  These DO NOT need to be elaborate.  However, if students wish to use pictures they will have to print them off at home and bring them to school.  They will need to list the following in their report "booklet":
County Seat
Population
Size
Founded
Named after
Landforms
Economy
Recreational Activities
Any FUN FACTS
Please know we have been working on these in class and have most of the information.  The students may need help with pictures and other "decorations" they may want for their board. Thank You!

Math

We are finishing ch.4 and moving on to ch.5.  Please remember to practice math facts.  Also, Think Through Math is a great way to practice all your math skills.

Math

We are finishing up chapter 4 this week.  Division with 2 and 3 digit quotients and quotients with remainders.  Students may bring home work occasionally because we are using most of class time to review and re-teach a few lessons.  However, please do not spend hours on this, simply send a note with your child the next day explaining what problems he/she was having.
